DWCS 45 winner Karine Silva hopes to land gogoplata submission in the UFC

LAS VEGAS – Karine Silva came close to locking up a gogoplata submission at Dana White’s Contender Series 45, and she plans on landing it in the UFC.

Though she didn’t get the gogoplata, Silva (14-4) was able to show off her jiu-jitsu skills when she submitted Yan Qihui by guillotine choke in the second round on Tuesday, which earned her a UFC contract.

Silva almost cinched in a gogoplata on Qihui toward the end of the first round, but the Brazilian was unable to get a proper hold of her opponent. Having notched submissions via armbar, guillotine, heel hook and triangle choke, Silva hopes to add a gogoplata to her resume – but in the octagon.

“I always train a lot the gogoplata in my training,” Silva said during the DWCS 45 post-fight news conference. “It’s something I love to do, and the only reason she didn’t tap out is because it slipped a little bit because of her blood. But I’ll keep training harder so I can submit someone with the gogoplata in the UFC now.
