Watch Glover Teixeira receive a wonderful welcome home to Connecticut as UFC champion

Glover Teixeira’s monumental feat didn’t go unnoticed in his adoptive hometown.

The Brazilian received a hero’s welcome on Monday night in Danbury, Conn., in honor of his championship win at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi. Originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil, Teixeira (33-7 MMA, 16-5 UFC) has been a longtime resident of Connecticut.

On Satirday, Teixeira submitted Jan Blachowicz in a dominant performance to capture the UFC light heavyweight title in the main event. The official stoppage came at the 3:02 mark of Round 2.

Texeira became the oldest first-time champion in UFC history, having won the belt at 42. He had fought for the title once before, coming up short in a lopsided unanimous decision against then-champion Jon Jones back in 2014.

Texeira is now on a six-fight winning streak, which includes give stoppages and three “Performance of the Night” bonuses.
