Anthony Taylor rematches Chris Avila on Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury undercard

Team Jake Paul will take on Team Nate Diaz when Anthony Taylor and Chris Avila run things back – this time, in a boxing ring.

Taylor meets Avila in an eight-round boxing match Dec. 18 on the undercard of Paul vs. Tommy Fury at Amelie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and air on Showtime pay-per-view.

Taylor confirmed the news on social media after an initial report from Ariel Helwani.

The pair squared off in an MMA fight in January 2020, when Taylor defeated Avila by majority decision at Bellator 238. Since then, Taylor has laced up the boxing gloves, losing a unanimous decision to Fury on the Paul vs. Tyron Woodley undercard in August.

Teammate of UFC superstar Diaz, Avila will be making his second appearance in the boxing ring. The 28-year-old laced up the gloves in 2014, but dropped a unanimous decision to Vicente Guzman. Avila is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts in the cage, his first winning streak since 2016.

With Diaz’s UFC contract coming to an end, could the Taylor vs. Avila boxing match kickstart a deal between the two stars? Paul and Diaz have been going back-and-forth and the YouTube sensation promised he would embarrass Diaz if they fought. Since both men have expressed interest in boxing each other, a matchup doesn’t appear to be out of the realm of possibility.
