Bellator’s Usman Nurmagomedov arrested for ‘running over a policeman with a car’

Usman Nurmagomedov, the cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, reportedly has been detained in Moscow for allegedly hitting a police officer with a vehicle.

According to a report from Russian news outlet TASS, Nurmagomedov (14-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), an undefeated Bellator lightweight, and friend Kamal Idrisov recently were detained by police after being “suspected of running over a policeman with a car at the checkpoint of Kaspiysk Airport,” according to the police press office.

The report from TASS says the Russian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal case surrounding the incident.

“The promotion has been made aware of a situation involving Usman Nurmagomedov and is in the process of gathering information,” Bellator officials wrote in a statement issued to MMA Junkie. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

According to the report, which cites details from investigators, Nurmagomedov and Idrisov were asked to stop at a police checkpoint by Kaspiysk Airport at roughly 11:30 a.m. local time.

The vehicle, a red Toyota Camry, allegedly had tinted windows and its license plates were removed. When the police instructed the vehicle to stop, it instead “sped up over a security barrier, running over a police officer who sustained injuries.”

Nurmagomedov, 23, is coming off a submission win over Patrik Pietila at Bellator 269 in October.
