Former featherweight champion Max Holloway has lost twice to the man that took his belt and current titleholder Alexander Volkanovski. Both fights went the distance and the second ended in a split decision that many thought Holloway won.
Holloway is the top ranked 145-pound contender and just defeated No. 3 ranked Yair Rodriguez in the UFC Vegas 42 main event on Saturday. Was it enough to warrant a trilogy fight with Volkanovski? UFC president Dana White thinks it was.
“Yeah,” White said when asked if Volkanovski vs. Holloway 3 would be a fight that the organization would be willing to make.
“It’s one of those things. They (Volkanovski and Holloway’s first two bouts) were razor-thin. He (Holloway) comes in and puts on a performance like this.”
Although Volkanovski holds two decision wins over Holloway, White thinks the two top featherweights have unfinished business.
“This is a guy that Volkanovski’s going to have to just get him out of the way and do it again,” White said during the UFC Vegas 42 Post-fight Press Conference at the UFC Apex on Saturday.
