Bellator 271 winner Steve Mowry eyes Marcelo Golm next: ‘It makes sense to him and it makes sense to me’

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Steve Mowry has unfinished business with Marcelo Golm.

Mowry (10-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) remained unbeaten when he picked up a first-round submission of Rakim Cleveland this past Friday at Bellator 271 and wants to see his previously booked fight against Golm come to fruition.

The pair was scheduled to compete at Bellator 265 in August, but Mowry was forced to withdraw. Golm (9-3 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) ended up facing Billy Swanson a week later instead and stopped him in Round 1 for a successful promotional debut.

“Marcelo Golm, we kind of had a couple of misconnections I guess here and there,” Mowry told reporters, including MMA Junkie, following the event. “It’s not disrespect. It’s not that I don’t like the guy. It’s a bout that right now that I think makes sense to him and it makes sense to me. I’d love to. This game is all about fighting the other best guys, and if Marcelo had a good idea like us fighting then I think it’s time we act on that.”

Mowry, who’s stopped all 10 of his opponents, doesn’t see a potential fight with ex-UFC fighter Golm going any differently.

“No disrespect, but (I beat him) everywhere,” Mowry said. “I think Golm is very good. I think he’s wonderful and his last few fights he’s really turned a corner. He’s really added a lot of new nuances to his game. But it’s a challenge I look forward to meeting head on.”

Bellator 271 took place Friday at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. To see the full interview with Mowry, check out the video above.
