Cynthia Calvillo broke orbital bone in TKO loss to Andrea Lee: ‘Dark places bring out the best in me’

Cynthia Calvillo took quite a bit of damage in her loss to Andrea Lee.

Calvillo’s corner stopped her UFC Fight Night 197 contest with Lee at the end of Round 2 after Calvillo’s right eye was seriously swollen. Calvillo (9-4-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC) says she fought the entirety of Round 2 with a broken orbital bone, prompting her corner to tell referee Mark Smith to wave the fight off.

The 34-year-old posted on Instagram about her loss, and despite the criticism thrown at her for not continuing to fight, Calvillo won’t be deterred.

“Dark places bring out the best in me. I’ve had worse losses than this in life. Orbital broken in the 1st round and people count me out. I know what i’m capable of. I’m a fighter no matter what they say. Thank you to all who still believe in me, I feel it. To the rest, I see it Too many people selling you wolf tickets to the max fighting nobodies! “pay my bills” i’ll beat their ass. The real ones know the truth. Talk your shit!!!”

Calvillo currently is enduring the worst skid of her career. In her first main event, Calvillo beat Jessica Eye in her UFC flyweight debut, but has since dropped three straight to former title challenger Katlyn Chookagian, former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade and Lee this past Saturday.
