Dana White reveals UFC in talks with Kayla Harrison: ‘Come over here and fight the GOAT’

Dana White is interested in the Kayla Harrison business after all.

The UFC president revealed Wednesday he’s in talks with the two-time PFL champion and current free agent – and that he’s interested in potentially setting up a fight between Harrison and division UFC women’s champion Amanda Nunes.

“I’m interested in the whole Kayla Harrison thing,” White told TSN. “She says she’s the best fighter in the world, there’s only one way to find out: Come over here and fight the GOAT. You want to be the greatest of all time? Come fight the GOAT.”

Nunes is regarded by many as the best female MMA fighter today and possibly ever. She holds the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight titles and is currently on a 12-fight winning streak.

Harrison, who’s a teammate of Nunes’ at American Top Team, is undefeated in professional MMA career with a record of 11-0 and is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo. Many believe Harrison is Nunes’ biggest threat today.

There’s been some hesitation from both Nunes and Harrison’s sides about definitely saying they’d fight each other, but there hasn’t been a definite no from either party. White thinks Nunes would fight Harrison if the opportunity would arise.

“Well you know, first of all, Amanda Nunes is one of the best athlete I’ve ever worked with and she doesn’t play that goofy, ‘we’re just friends,’ sh*t,” White said.

Harrison competes in PFL at lightweight but fought before at 145 pounds under the Invicta FC banner in November 2020. White said, for now, the women’s featherweight division, which is thin on number of fighters, will remain just as long as Nunes want to defend the title.

“I have that division, the division is still there for the champion,” White said. “The day she says she doesn’t want to defend that belt anymore, we’d probably let it go. It’s there for her.”
