No need for bets this time.
According to Tyron Woodley, there’s a rematch clause in his contract to fight Jake Paul on Dec. 18.
Woodley (0-1) is stepping in on two weeks’ notice for injured Tommy Fury to rematch Paul (4-0) at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. and if he evens the score with a win, that apparently will set up a trilogy bout.
“Of course I’m down for a trilogy. Yes, it is a rematch clause in there,” Woodley told TMZ. “I’m going to put that on him. After I knock you out, Mr. Betting Man, are you going to run or are you going to try to fight somebody else or are you going to come and get this work again?”
Woodley lost a split decision to Paul in August in which he was able to knock the YouTube star into the ropes in Round 4. But when the judges rendered the scorecards, Paul had done enough to outpoint the former UFC welterweight champion. Despite Paul landing more total strikes, Woodley thinks he was robbed.
“I felt like I won the fight, but when I go back out there and beat his ass and win this fight and win by knockout and go onto a trilogy and do it again and leave no doubt, that’s the real ‘leave no doubt,’” Woodley said. “To me, there was no doubt the first time. I watched the fight last night. How do you lose (Rounds) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? He didn’t win one round after Round 4, and he clearly lost Round 4. So without the knockdown, without 10-8, there was no doubt the first time. So this is the nail in the coffin, basically what I should have done the first time. The third time will be no doubt.”
Woodley continued, “I bet I beat his ass. I bet if he get up, I bet I do it again. I bet if he drop, I bet I knock his ass back down. So any bet he tries to make, I’m gonna say I bet I beat your ass.”
Woodley followed through on a pre-fight bet by getting Paul’s name tattooed on his middle finger for losing to him. The bet was re-wagered in the ring after their fight when Paul indicated that he’d be willing to rematch Woodley if he got the tattoo, but Paul instead opted to face Fury.
Woodley ended up getting his wish regardless and if he beats Paul, it seems neither man will have to campaign for a third fight.
