Diego Ferreira not feeling pressure of losing skid going into UFC Fight Night 199

LAS VEGAS – Diego Ferreira is planning to start a new winning streak Saturday at UFC Fight Night 199

It wasn’t that long ago when Ferreira (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) had won six-straight fights in the deep lightweight division. Things have flipped on its head though, and now he’s lost back-to-back fights going in the upcoming matchup with Mateusz Gamrot (19-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

Although losing a third consecutive bout would be a difficult blow to Ferreira’s career, he said he’s not stressing over that possibility, and instead is thinking about brighter days ahead.

“I really don’t get the pressure,” Ferreira told MMA Junkie at UFC Fight Night 199 media day. “I don’t know why. For me, this is still just a fight. I want to be bleeding, I want to make a war and this I think doesn’t make me feel the pressure. I don’t put it on my mind. I just enjoy.

“I want to make it better this time. Six times was not enough. Six wins was not enough. I need eight to nine this time.”

Ferreira thinks his matchup with Gamrot, which takes place at the UFC Apex and streams on ESPN+, is a perfect opportunity to get back on the winning side. The Brazilian is impressed with what his opponent has done inside the octagon thus far, but Ferreira thinks he has the tools to hand him a loss.

“I know he’s a really good fighter,” Ferreira said. “It’s good for me because I need that push. He’s a challenge. He’s 19-1 right now. Who cannot be excited to fight someone like that? It’s always a win to fight somebody so tough who is doing so good in the fight. I know it’s going to be my night and I’ve got to remind myself that we’re there because we’re tough. We’re going to throw down. It doesn’t matter how good he is.”
