Diego Ferreira reveals he injured rib prior to UFC Fight Night 199 loss to Mateusz Gamrot

Diego Ferreira entered UFC Fight Night 199 with an already compromised rib.

Ferreira (17-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) suffered a TKO loss to Mateusz Gamrot this past Saturday, marking the Brazilian’s third straight loss. Midway through Round 2, Ferreira ate a big knee to the ribs, and he immediately looked at the referee and asked him to stop the bout.

According to Ferreira, he injured his rib three weeks prior to the fight but did not want to withdraw. He took to Instagram to explain what happened.

“Hey guys man what a night last night was.. if you guys saw my fight I was fighting my fight me and my coaches plan.. How we planned it, was exactly how everything was going. But 3 weeks a go I hurt my rib in training but didn’t want to pull out from my fight, it wasn’t an option. And yesterday I knew it was a risk, every fighter has been there fighting with injuries and all it took was the right knee and it took my fight away. Thank you for the support I know this is not the end.”

After amassing a six-fight winning streak, including a submission over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, Ferreira has now dropped three in a row to Beneil Dariush, Gregor Gillespie and Gamrot.
