‘What a zoo’: Julianna Peña reacts to Amanda Nunes leaving American Top Team

ANAHEIM, Calif. – UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena doesn’t think Amanda Nunes switching teams will delay their rematch.

Shortly after losing the title in a shocking upset to Peña at UFC 269 in December, Nunes (21-5 MMA, 14-2 UFC) reportedly has parted ways with her longtime gym, American Top Team, and will start her own team.

When asked for her thoughts on Nunes’ departure from ATT, Peña (11-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) was concerned only about one thing.

“Yeah, what a zoo, huh?” Peña said during Wednesday’s UFC 270 media day. “Best of luck. I just hope everything goes according to her plans and that we can get this fight booked. That’s all I care about.”

Peña is hoping the pair can run things back by June or July, and she doesn’t expect the change in Nunes’ training situation to have an impact on the timeline.

“Amanda probably wants to get back in there as soon as possible, and she wants to try and get her belt back,” Peña said. “So I don’t anticipate her waiting a super long time. I think that she wants to get in there as soon as possible, and summer’s looking good for me. I’m free, and I don’t know what she’s doing, but summer time is good for me.”
