Deiveson Figueiredo praises Henry Cejudo’s Fight Ready team, plans to stay

ANAHEIM, Calif. – It looks like Deiveson Figueiredo is a full-time fixture at Fight Ready.

The newly crowned flyweight champion is happy with how his preparation went under Henry Cejudo’s Fight Ready team for Saturday’s UFC 270 title fight.

Figueiredo (21-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) looked to get his UFC belt back and bounce back from a submission loss to Brandon Moreno (19-5-2 MMA, 7-2-2 UFC) in 2021 at UFC 263. Figueiredo, who switched camps to Fight Ready in Arizona for the trilogy, got the job done when he outpointed Moreno to win a unanimous decision in the co-main event.

“This is a team that embraced me, that welcomed me, and that took care of me,” Figueiredo said at the UFC 270 post-fight news conference. “The only thing I need to do is go back home, grab my family, and bring them to America to not only be focused, but to keep this belt and keep it there with these guys.”

UFC 270 was the third straight time Moreno and Figueiredo met in the octagon. Their series of fights was the first trilogy in UFC history to happen consecutively. The two first met at UFC 256 in late 2019, which ended in a majority draw. At UFC 263 in 2020 Moreno, won with a third-round submission.

Figueiredo says the way he approached the fight was a bigger factor in getting the win this time around than his improvement as a fighter. The Brazilian feels the game plan  Cejudo and coach Eric Albarracin put together was pivotal in regaining the UFC flyweight title.

“The strategy no doubt and it shows it was a team effort,” Figueiredo said. “There was a lot of teamwork. I trust them a lot and they said this all along. They told me to keep patient and stay put until two minutes remaining in the fight and then I can be agressive and violent.”
