Luis Pena says he has first fight booked since arrest, UFC departure

Luis Pena will return to action this year.

Pena (9-3), who was released by the UFC in wake of his arrest on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and simple battery, has been booked for his first post-octagon bout.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to reveal that he has signed a bout agreement, hinting that he will be competing in Russia.

“And like that we’re back, almost a year to the day of my last fight, I will make my return to competition and fight outside of America for the first time in my career as well. The opponent has been found, the contract has been signed, and the date is set huge thank you @rogerdkrahl and @alexdavismma for helping make this happen. #fromrussiawithlove”

In June, Pena was arrested in Coral Springs, Fla., on felony charges alleging robbery by sudden snatching, battery and criminal mischief and was held in custody at the Broward County (Fla.) Detention Center.

The second incident occurred Oct. 10. According to Broward County Sheriff’s office, “At approximately 12:34 a.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office Deerfield Beach deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call near the 200 block of Southeast 12th Avenue in Deerfield Beach. On scene, deputies made contact with multiple subjects, and Luis Antonio Peña was later detained and taken into custody. Peña was transported to BSO Main Jail and faces one count of simple battery and one count of domestic violence battery (both misdemeanor). The investigation continues.”

Peña hasn’t competed since April, a split decision win over Alexander Munoz at UFC on ESPN 22. “The Ultimate Fighter 27” alum went 5-3 in eight octagon appearances.
