Paddy Pimblett: Jake Paul ‘trying to act like a martyr’ with fighter pay talk

Paddy Pimblett is not buying what Jake Paul is selling when it comes to his campaign for better UFC fighter pay.

Paul, the YouTube star-turned professional boxer, has been heavily advocating for UFC fighters to get paid more, taking aim at UFC president Dana White in the process. He even mentioned wanting to create a fighters union.

But rising star Pimblett (17-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) thinks Paul has been advocating for the cause only for his personal gain and doesn’t have the right intentions.

“I’ll be honest, that’s the thing what’s pissing me off,” Pimblett said on his podcast “Chattin Pony with Paddy The Baddy.” “He’s going on, he’s trying to act like a martyr, like he’s helping MMA fighters. He’s not, lad. He’s just doing that for his own publicity. That’s why the only thing what’s pissing me off about it, people are like, ‘Ah, he’s actually being good for MMA fighters.’ He’s not. He just wants to make a show of Dana White, and that’s the perfect way of doing it.”

Although Paul, who’s 4-0 as a pro boxer, expressed his intentions of some day competing in MMA, Pimblett doubts it will happen.

“The way he’s saying, ‘I’m gonna end up getting in the cage.’ You’re not, lad,” Pimblett said. “You’re not. Stop lying. If you wanna have an MMA fight, I’ll fight you in my ma’s garden tomorrow. You know what I mean?”

Pimblett’s popularity skyrocketed after a thrilling knockout win over Luigi Vendramini in his UFC debut. He will look to continue riding that momentum when he meets Kazula Vargas in front of his home fans March 19 at the O2 Arena in London.
