Kayla Harrison says ‘f*ck no’ to bantamweight move, unless a lucrative offer is presented

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Kayla Harrison’s potential move to 135 pounds is unlikely.

The two-time PFL women’s champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo sees bantamweight as improbable for a future career move. Harrison (12-0), who’s currently the hottest free agent in the sport, recently said in an interview with ESPN that she’s “not ruling it out” a drop to 135 pounds, but although it may be in the possibilities, Harrison is not really interested in the weight class and doubts she’ll ever make a move to bantamweight.

“I was kind of talking sh*t being goofy,” Harrison told MMA Junkie. “My goal is obviously not to fight at 135 pounds. … I have to watch what I say from now on. Obviously, I want to fight the best in the world. Julianna is now considered a top dog, but I also heard that she would fight me at 145 for the right amount of money, so I probably won’t have to fight 135.

“I just want to challenge myself and continue to grow as a fighter, continue to grow as a human being, and continue to get better. Do I want to fight at 135? F*ck no. No, of course not.”

Harrison told MMA Junkie she expects her career to unfold at 145 or 155 pounds. The undefeated American Top Team fighter said she’d only consider 135 pounds under very special circumstances.

“Yeah, unless I get offered a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of money,” Harrison said. “Or if there’s some undefeated young, hungry, absolute killer who’s at 135 and she starts talking a little smack – maybe then I’ll have to come down. But other than that, no.”
