Mads Burnell isn’t paying too much mind to Adam Borics’ resume.
Burnell (16-3 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) headlines Bellator 276 on Saturday when he meets Borics (17-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) in a pivotal five-round No. 1 contender fight at featherweight.
Borics is coming off arguably the best win of his career over Jeremy Kennedy at Bellator 256, and his lone career loss came at the hands of former champion Darrion Caldwell. However, Burnell isn’t necessarily impressed.
“Records are for the casuals,” Burnell told MMA Junkie. “If you look at Randy Couture’s record, he’s 16-11, and you’ll be like, ‘That’s a dog-sh*t record.’ But then you look at who he fought, like damn, OK, that’s a sick record. Then you have dudes who are 20-0 or whatever, you look into who they’ve fought, and it’s like, man, he just fought cab drivers. So records don’t mean sh*t.”
Burnell, who had a short stint in the octagon, has been on fire since departing from the UFC in 2018. The 28-year-old went on to capture the Cage Warriors featherweight title and is 3-0 since signing with Bellator in 2020, most recently defeating former title challenger Emmanuel Sanchez.
Although he’s entering just the second five-round fight of his career, the Danish submission specialist will look to capitalize on any opening like he always does.
“Just going in and doing me,” Burnell said. “Boring-ass answer … If the opportunity is there to take a neck or a chin or whatever, I’ll do that. If it’s not there, I’ll just keep working and be methodical and do my thing.”
Bellator 276 takes place Saturday at Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.
