Why Ray Borg isn’t focused on title ahead of Eagle FC 46 fight vs. Ricky Bandejas

MIAMI – For Ray Borg, the current goal is just to continue racking up wins.

After a frustrating final stretch in the UFC that led to his departure, Borg (15-5) has won back-to-back fights, including a successful Eagle FC debut against fellow ex-UFC fighter Cody Gibson this past January.

Borg will look to make it three consecutive wins in a quick turnaround fight against Ricky Bandejas on Friday at Eagle FC 46. Despite Bandejas (15-6) seeing title implications with a win in their bantamweight bout, Borg isn’t thinking about it.

“I’m not really too focused on the belt,” Borg told MMA Junkie. “I know the belt is in kind of a weird situation with the champ (Khavalov) being over there in Russia and being kind of a still newer pro. He’s only got five fights, so honestly, my only thing is winning. That’s all I care about. I told myself once I got out of the UFC, the only thing that I could do from here on out is just win fights.”

A former UFC flyweight title challenger, Borg is not ruling out a return to 125 pounds but said that will depend on how quickly Eagle FC turns him around.

“We’ll see,” Borg said. “I was talking to my coaches about it. We’ll see how much time I have between this one and the next one. If they want to throw me back on, if everything goes as planned and I beat up Ricky the way I want to, I’m looking to get back in as soon as possible. So if they don’t give me a long break between the next one then it’ll be at ’35, but if I get a little bit of a break between now and the next one then we’ll kind of sit back and evaluate what we’re gonna do from there.”

Eagle FC 46 takes place Friday at FLXcast Arena in Miami and streams live on the FLXcast app.
