Phil Davis: At 205, next Bellator title shot always could be one fight away

ST. LOUIS – Phil Davis could be one fight away from another title shot, but in his division he thinks that’s nothing new.

Davis (23-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA), a former light heavyweight champion, takes on recent title challenger Julius Anglickas (10-2 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) in the Bellator 276 co-main event Saturday. A win could make him next in line for a shot at the belt he used to hold. But then again, he knows his opponent just got dropped into a title fight this past fall on short notice due to an injury. That’s the nature of the beast, it seems at times, at 205 pounds.

Davis spoke to MMA Junkie and other media members at Thursday’s Bellator 276 media day in St. Louis. Davis talked about keeping things fresh deep into his career, his fight against Anglickas, the possible title stakes and more.

Check out the portions of Davis’ interview in the video above.

Bellator 276 takes place Saturday at Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.
