Tim Elliott, Amir Albazi targeted to face off in June 25 UFC bout after trading Twitter barbs

Amir Albazi called out Tim Elliott and apparently will get his wish.

After a lengthy back-and-forth between the ranked flyweights, the UFC matchmakers obliged and booked Albazi (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) against Elliott (18-12-1 MMA, 7-10 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on June 25, which doesn’t yet have a publicly known venue or location.

A person with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. The Underground was first with the news.

The pair engaged in a Twitter back-and-forth that eventually led to their matchup.

Winner of three of his past four, Elliott is coming off a big upset win over Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC 272 in March. The Season 24 “Ultimate Fighter” winner and former title challenger turned heads when he admitted to grabbing Ulanbekov’s gloves in the fight, which Ulanbekov’s team was visibly upset about after the fight.

Albazi will return for the first time since January 2021. Currently based in Las Vegas, Albazi is 2-0 since signing with the UFC in 2020, picking up a submission finish of Malcolm Gordon, followed by a unanimous decision over Zhalgas Zhumagulov at UFC 257.
