Nate Diaz requests UFC release, says he’s ‘got sh*t to do’

Nate Diaz is ready to move on from the UFC – or so that’s what he put out there Saturday.

Diaz, apparently frustrated with his situation, issued a tweet asking to be released. He tagged UFC president Dana White and intended to tag UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell.

“I Would [sic] like to request to be released from the @ufc @danawhite @hunter,” Diaz tweeted. “I apologize for asking online but u don’t give me a fight asap I got sh*t to do [sic].”

Diaz’s tweet was accompanied by beach, wrestling, boxing, punching fist, and runner emojis.

With only one fight left on his UFC contract, Diaz has yet to come to terms on his next fight. He competed at UFC 263 in June when he lost a unanimous decision to Leon Edwards. Since then, there have been mixed messages about Diaz’s future.

Diaz has made it clear he would like to fight Dustin Poirier, with Poirier reciprocating interest, but the fight hasn’t been booked for unknown reasons, leading to apparent frustration from Diaz, who said he wanted that to be his “retirement fight.”

Recently, White voiced optimism about signing Diaz to a contract extension but then last week Diaz tweeted that he wanted to fight alongside friend and former UFC fighter Yancy Medeiros on next month’s Bellator 279 card in Hawaii.

White told ESPN last week that he plans to get Diaz a fight soon.

“We’ll get him a fight,” White said. “We owe him fights. I say this all the time, we’ve got to give these guys three fights a year. We’ll give him a fight.”

Whatever communication Diaz has received from the UFC apparently isn’t cutting it.
