Bellator 278 weigh-in results: Everyone hits their marks after buzzer-beating retry

HONOLULU – MMA Junkie was on scene and reported from Thursday’s official Bellator 278 fighter weigh-ins, which took place at the Bellator host hotel.

Among those who weighed in were women’s flyweight champion Juliana Velasquez (12-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA) and challenger Liz Carmouche (16-7 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), who meet in the main event. The two title fight competitors were the first to the scale.

A rapid-fire stream of fighters from the rest of the card followed, but fizzled out until the room awaited solely Manny Muro (12-7 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who fights Nate Andrews (16-4 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) in a 160-pound contract weight bout on the main card.

With four minutes left in the window, Muro weighed in at 160.4. Since 160 pounds is a specially-contracted weight, there is no pound allowance. He then weighed in with the towel, but still was heavy at 160.2.

Muro disappeared in the back, but did what he needed to do in those few minutes. He weighed in at exactly 160 as the weigh-in window clock expired, which signaled all 16 fighters made weight.

The nearby Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu hosts Friday’s event, which has a main card on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie. It is the first of back-to-back shows in Honolulu.
