UFC 274 free fight: Tony Ferguson submits Kevin Lee to win interim lightweight title

Tony Ferguson has yet to win an undisputed UFC title, but he’s been as close as one can get to winning one.

Ferguson wrapped his hands around an interim lightweight title in October 2017. Ferguson (25-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC) submitted Kevin Lee with a triangle choke in the third round of the UFC 216 main event.

Ferguson’s interim title win was his 10th straight. He later was stripped of the title, but won twice more after that. That 12-fight run was the best of his career. From 2013-2019, ” El Cucuy” picked up eight post-fight bonuses in that stretch.

Ferguson returns to action Saturday against Michael Chandler on the main card of UFC 274 in Phoenix. The 38-year-old will be looking to snap a three-fight skid.

Chandler is coming off back-to-back losses against Justin Gaethje in MMA Junkie’s Fight of the Year at UFC 268 in November 2021 and Charles Oliveira in a vacant title bout at UFC 262 in May 2021.
