Joe Lauzon open to more fights after he and Donald Cerrone ‘try to murder each other’ at UFC 274

PHOENIX – Joe Lauzon is not making any definitive decisions about his future ahead of Saturday’s UFC 274 encounter with Donald Cerrone.

Lauzon (28-15 MMA, 15-12 UFC) has been semi-retired from competition since his most recent fight in October 2019. He never officially hung up the gloves but said he wouldn’t come back unless there was something highly intriguing for him.

Ultimately an offer to fight Cerrone (36-16 MMA, 23-13 UFC) convinced Lauzon, and he’s thrilled for a matchup between two athletes with a combined 33 fight-night bonuses under the UFC banner.

“We’re friendly,” Lauzon told reporters, including MMA Junkie, of his relationship with Cerrone at Wednesday’s UFC 274 media day. “But we’re going to try to murder each other Saturday night.”

Lauzon, 37, said his plans going forward will be identical to what he did prior to UFC 274. He’s not going to officially retire but said the scenario has to be nearly perfect for him to agree to step away from his personal businesses and fully invest in a training camp.

“I have to like the opponent, I have to like the date, and I have to like the location,” Lauzon said. “If this is the last fight, cool. If this is not the last fight, cool. But just keep sending me names.”
