After their previous successes together, UFC 274 was not a good night for Trevor Wittman-trained fighters Justin Gaethje and Rose Namajunas, who both suffered losses on Saturday’s card at Footprint Center in Phoenix.
Gaethje (23-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) succumbed to a first-round submission against Charles Oliveira (33-8 MMA, 21-8 UFC) to fall short of lightweight gold in the main event, and he’s now 0-2 in undisputed title fights inside the octagon.
Namajunas (11-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC), meanwhile, saw her second reign as strawweight champion come to an abrupt end after just one defense courtesy of a split decision loss to Carla Esparza (19-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) in their co-main event rematch. And as a result, Namajunas fell to 0-2 in head-to-head matchups.
