Video: Has Josh Emmett done enough to earn a UFC featherweight title shot?

In Austin, Texas, Josh Emmett got his hand raised for the first time in a UFC main event.

The UFC on ESPN 37 headliner was a tightly contested fight between Emmett and Calvin Kattar. While many questioned the official judges’ scorecards, the split decision victory belongs to Emmett after a close 25 minutes of action.

With the win over Kattar in his back pocket, Emmett wants a shot at the title next. But was this the type of performance that will solidify his spot in line?

The trilogy title bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway is set to go down at UFC 276 and a battle between two contenders ranked higher in the promotional rankings also takes place in July when Brian Ortega faces Yair Rodriguez.

There are a lot of scenarios that could play out in the coming month. Has Emmett done enough to wait for his shot, or does he need another big win before fighting for the title?

Our panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King, and Matt Wells discuss Emmett’s position in the division along with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia in the video above.

“Spinning Back Clique” is released each Tuesday on MMA Junkie’s YouTube channel. You can watch the full episode in the video below.
