Lucas Brennan wants steady pace before new contract and step up in competition

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – After another dominant win under the Bellator banner, Lucas Brennan is in no rush to fast-track his way up the featherweight rankings.

Brennan (7-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA) made easy work of Johnny Soto (4-3 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) at Bellator 282 on Friday with a first-round rear-naked choke. It was his third straight first-round submission win and fifth first-round submission finish overall in seven fights.

In the wake of the win, Brennan said he’s comfortable with the path he’s on right now. And once his current Bellator deal is up, then he’ll start thinking about fighters at the next level.

“I want to continue winning fights and I want to finish out my contract,” Brennan told MMA Junkie after his win. “I’m sure a more detailed question of the same will come up and some point where you’ll ask if I want to fight ranked guys. Once this contract is up, that’s something I’ll be discussing with my coaches. But as of right now, I just want to finish out my contract, get these wins in, get these fights in, and continue doing what I’m doing.”
