Ian Garry says he’ll be ‘one of the best fighters MMA has ever seen’

LAS VEGAS – Ian Garry’s confidence is boiling over after UFC 276.

Brash Irishman Garry (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) stayed unbeaten with a 30-27 sweep of the scorecards against Gabe Green (11-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on the preliminary card. The 24-year-old former Cage Warriors welterweight champion said going the distance with Green was what the doctor ordered.

“That’s the performance I wanted,” Garry said at his post-fight news conference at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “I told you the other day that Gabe was going to bring it, that Gabe was going to be game. I stood across from him at the weigh-ins. He showed me his confidence. He showed me he was ready to go. And I told you: I’m just better. I don’t need to be better than anybody else on this planet other than the person who signed that contract and stood across the cage from me.”

Garry, whose pre-UFC experience all came under the Cage Warriors banner, said he’s going to keep getting better, and by the time all is said and done, he expects to not only be a UFC champion, but be regarded as one of the greatest of all time.

That’s a lofty expectation, but Garry seems ready to prove it.

“I showed you once again how f*cking good I am, how fast I am, how powerful I am, and it just keeps going up from here,” he said. “I go home now, I work on what I need to improve on, and I get better – and I keep doing this. I’m going to be undefeated for a long, long time.

“… One day, everybody is going to see the growth of my career from my debut until the day I become a champion and no one will be able to argue that I’ve grown every single performance, and that I’ve improved myself every single time. And they will have no choice but to say I am one of the best fighters MMA has ever seen.”
