Jon Jones reignites Twitter rivalry with Israel Adesanya – and Francis Ngannou

Jon Jones still is chirping the direction of Israel Adesanya – and Francis Ngannou now is caught up in the fray.

After Adesanya beat Jared Cannonier by unanimous decision in the UFC 276 main event this past saturday to retain the middleweight title, Jones let his thoughts be known on Twitter.

Like he’s been prone to do, Jones deleted those tweets. But after heavyweight champion and fellow Africa native Ngannou took a shot at Jones the day after Adesanya’s win, Jones got around to firing back Wednesday.

“Since Jones been siting back and talking sh*t Izzy have defended his title a least 5 times,” Ngannou posted on Twitter. Well done CHAMP @stylebender Some people talk and some act. 🇳🇬🇨🇲🌍

Jones, regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in history, defended the light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020. He relinquished the belt soon after with an announced plan of a move to heavyweight to go after a title there, but he hasn’t fought since his win over Reyes 29 months ago.

Since that win, he’s added other legal troubles to a resume that already had plenty of outside-the-cage troubles, and also had a very public spat with the UFC brass, led by president Dana White, over how much he should get paid when he makes his return.

Jones defended himself and made another Disney “Frozen” reference to Adesanya.

“look at Francis over there defending Elsa, how cute,” Jones posted on Twitter. “I could takeoff two more years and you guys work combined won’t match what I’ve done in that octagon. #Facts”

He then posted that he wasn’t impressed with Adesanya’s win over Cannonier or Ngannou’s most recent win over Ciryl Gane in January, a unanimous decision that snapped a five-fight streak of knockout wins.

At one point, there was talk of the potential for Adesanya to move up from middleweight to fight Jones at light heavyweight. Now that Jones seems to be set on a heavyweight future, the bigger likelihood is a fight between him and Ngannou.

But depending on how heated the talk gets, Adesanya doesn’t seem like the type who would turn down a fight with Jones, no matter the weight class.
