Alexander Volkanovski shares x-ray of broken thumb, will undergo surgery

Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski successfully defended his title in the UFC 276 co-main event against Max Holloway, but suffered an injury that will keep him sidelined for 12 weeks.

During the event’s post-fight press conference, Volkanovski indicated that he thought that he broke his hand early in the trilogy with Holloway. “The Great” turned out to be correct.

“Broke my thumb in the second round, but that don’t stop us! Having surgery today and will be out for 12 weeks. Looking forward to getting back out there, thanks to everyone for the support,” Volkanovski posted on Instagram on Thursday. He also included the x-ray of his thumb.

Volkanovski (25-1) has defended the 145-pound championship four times. He’s undefeated inside the octagon, is riding a 22-fight winning streak, and the lone loss on his record came in 2013.
