UFC London: Curtis Blaydes defeated Tom Aspinall via freak knee injury seconds into fight

Curtis Blaydes defeated Tom Aspinall via freak knee injury in the UFC London main event.

In the opening seconds of the fight, Tom Aspinall stepped on his leg wring and looks to have blown out his knee. The fight was stopped and for the second time in a row a UFC main event end due to an accidental freak injury.

“It’s almost like we didn’t even fight,” Blaydes said. “I wish the injury hadn’t happened. I don’t know what to say man, I’m sorry.”

Blaydes was on a two-fight win streak with victories over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Chris Daukaus. Aspinall, the hometown hero, was riding a massive eight-fight win streak, including all five of his UFC appearances.

It’s likely a rematch could happen, depending on the severity of the injury to Aspinall.
