It’s not official yet, but the UFC flyweight title likely will be on the line again in January.
Champion Deiveson Figueiredo is expected to put the belt on the line against interim champ Brandon Moreno at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro in what will be the fourth fight between the two.
For Figueiredo, it will be his fourth straight fight against Moreno. They fought to a draw at UFC 256 in December 2020. In June 2021 at UFC 263, Moreno submitted Figueiredo to win the belt. But Figueiredo got it back in January at UFC 270 with a unanimous decision.
He’s been shelved since then, and Moreno beat Kai Kara-France to win an interim title in the meantime to set up a fourth fight in one of the most competitive rivalries in UFC history.
Because of that impending announcement for the quadrilogy, flyweights have been on the mind lately. The UFC has had some great finishes in the division’s history, including plenty of top-notch tapouts. The promotion put together a video highlights package of its 10 best flyweight submissions – of which Figueiredo and Moreno are featured, as is former longtime divisional kingpin Demetrious Johnson.
