Dustin Poirier undergoes surgery on infected foot

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was readmitted into the hospital on Thursday to undergo surgery on his badly infected foot.

Earlier this week, “The Diamond” was hospitalized due to a pretty severe staph infection. He posted photos on his foot to social media showing the seriousness of the infection. He was in the hospital from Sunday to Wednesday, but a follow-up MRI indicated that he needed a surgical procedure.

“For those asking about Dustins foot… He has a bad staph infection that started Saturday, didn’t respond to oral antibiotics & he was unable to walk,” Jolie Poirier explained on Instagram. “Sunday we went into the ER & they admitted him for cellulitis. They released him early Wednesday morning but after a 2nd MRI it showed there was an abscess that needs to be drained. So now he’s back in the hospital for surgery. I’ll post an update once he’s out. Thank you everyone for the kind words & support.”

Following the surgery, she posted an update with news that the surgery was successful. “Surgery went well, and just like they expected,” she wrote. “Now on to recovery.”

After the procure, Poirier posted a photo to Instagram from his hospital bed putting the rest of the lightweight division on notice.

“About to bounce back! Nobody’s safe. Everyone talking shit and kicking when im down, thats coward movements. I want all the smoke. El Diamante,” he wrote.
