USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, March 7: Jon Jones returns to the top

Jon Jones is back, and once again has UFC gold around his waist.

At UFC 285, Jones made his heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane to compete for the vacant title. The fight didn’t make it out of the first round, as Jones finished Gane with a guillotine choke, coming away virtually unscathed with the heavyweight championship. Jones’ return also marks his return to the heavyweight division rankings and the top of the men’s pound-for-pound lists.

The co-main event of the pay-per-view in Las Vegas caused a massive shakeup in the women’s rankings. Alexa Grasso pulled off an incredible upset of Valentina Shevchenko to win the women’s flyweight title, making history as the first woman from Mexico to hold UFC gold. Grasso’s win vaults her to the top of the divisional rankings, while entering the top 10 of the women’s pound-for-pound.
