Anthony Pettis not done with MMA yet, plans move to welterweight in return

Anthony Pettis may be in the world of boxing now, but he’s bound to return to MMA.

The former UFC and WEC lightweight champion said Saturday following his professional boxing debut that he’s coming back to the cage. Pettis beat Roy Jones Jr. by majority decision in the main event of Gamebred Boxing 4 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

“Showtime” said he enjoyed the boxing experience, and he’s keen on doing it again, but assures competing in MMA is still part of his plan.

“I’m not done with MMA yet,” Pettis said at the post-fight press conference. “I still have some MMA left in me. I definitely want to move up to 170 pounds. I think doing that tournament at 155, I just couldn’t be myself. I was cutting too much. I didn’t feel good in the training camp. Once I figure out the weight class and the opportunities, (I’ll be OK). I’m a free agent right now, so I get to sit back and take the fights as they come. I’m in a good spot.”

And in terms of his boxing debut, Pettis is happy he got his hand raised after fighting eight rounds against 54-year-old legend Jones Jr. He’s proud of his performance and the work that he was bale to put in with his team.

“(I’m) most definitely happy with the performance,” Pettis said. “Roy is a legend. Even his coaches – he has so much experience out there. I gave up a big size advantage. I think I fought a great fight. My coaches gave me a great game plan and I executed that perfectly.”
