Adrian Yanez clarifies post-fight emotion after UFC 287 loss: ‘I was yelling at myself because I f*cked up’

Adrian Yanez was angry with himself after he suffered his first octagon setback at UFC 287.

Yanez was knocked out by Rob Font on this past Saturday’s main card at Kaseya Center in Miami. The 29-year-old was a sizable favorite going into the fight, but was upset by Font, who stopped him in Round 1.

Yanez (16-4 MMA, 5-1 UFC) posted a statement on Twitter to express his disappointment in the outcome.

“I’m sorry guys. Camp was great, coaches put it all together, and my weight cut was good. I f*cked up on my end. I’m utterly disappointed and disgusted in my performance… I’ll be back.”

Yanez was seen yelling in the cage immediately after he was stopped. Analyst Daniel Cormier identified it as potential anger toward his corner on the pay-per-view broadcast, but Yanez clarified it was frustration toward the outcome.

Just to clarify. Saw some things saying I was yelling at my coaches or saying it was early stoppage. Not true, I was yelling, but I was yelling at myself cause I f*cked up. Good sh*t @RobSFont hope you get that figgy fight. Thanks everybody for overwhelming positive feedback .”

With the loss, Yanez saw his nine-fight winning streak snapped. Prior to the Font setback, Yanez had post-fight bonuses in all five of his UFC wins with finishes in four of them.
