Following Dricus du Plessis’ UFC 290 win over Robert Whittaker, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya entered the cage and acted like a ‘clown’ and a ‘child’ according to du Plessis.
Adesanya got in du Plessis’ face and shouted insults, some with racial tones. Du Plessis largely just stood the and let Adesanya say what he wanted to say without much interruption.
“It’s usually the contender that goes into the cage. Right? So he even sees my as the champion,” Du Plessis said.
“Now what he’s seen my in that cage, he knows what kind of force I am in there. You could see, you could feel the energy and I could feel how insignificant he is to me when we get into that cage.”
How Adesanya conducted himself wasn’t a good representation of a champion, according to Plessis.
“I’m prepared. I’m prepared for everything he says,” du Plessis said. “He’s acting like a clown in there. That’s not how a champion behaves. That’s not at all how a man behaves. He’s acting like a child.”
