Cory Sandhagen slated for surgery on ‘fully torn tricep’

Cory Sandhagen came out of UFC Nashville with a lopsided victory over late replacement Rob Font. He dominated the fight from bell to bell, earning a unanimous decision victory.

That didn’t stop the boo birds from squawking loudly during the fight and following the decision.

“I wanted to put a more exciting fight on, but I’ve been dealing with a little bit of an elbow problem and I think I tore my triceps. I know, boo away,” Sandhagen told the Nashville fans.

They continued to boo him, likely believing it was an excuse for a dominant, but not all that exciting victory.

Regardless of what onlookers believed at the time, Sandhagen’s words held truth. Perhaps more truth than he had hoped.

Cory Sanhagen reveals fully torn tricep from UFC Nashville bout

Sandhagen on Monday revealed that he has been diagnosed with a fully torn tricep in round one of the UFC Nashville headliner. The injury requires surgery.

“Fully torn tricep in Round 1,” Sandhagen wrote on Instagram.

“Wasn’t able to punch or elbow with that arm without pain and it feeling like sh*t. Did what I had to do to win that night. Surgery this week – back soon!”

The victory over Font likely puts Sandhagen in a solid position to challenge the winner of the upcoming UFC 292 headlining title fight between bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and challenger Sean O’Malley.

That, of course, would depend upon how the Sterling vs. O’Malley fight plays out, how long it takes for Sandhagen to heal, and the direction UFC officials want to go. Sandhagen, however, believes he is next.

“Sterling, O’Malley, I’ll see you guys in Boston. I got next.”
