UFC Vegas 79 Bonuses: Welterweight war rightfully wins fight of the night honors

UFC Vegas 79 was packed with great moments, but these few warriors stood out the most and were awarded a bonus.

UFC Vegas 79 treated us to some memorable matchups but none more so than the welterweight war that took place on the prelims. Tim Means snapped his three-fight losing streak with a huge win over the always-dangerous Andre Fialho.

The pair collided in the center of the octagon and traded blows up until the finish of the fight. “Dirty Bird” used his veteran instincts and overwhelmed the shorter Fialho, eventually earning himself a third-round knockout. Performance of the Night 

Having already defeated her in the past, Marina Rodriguez was seeking a more impressive victory over Michelle Waterson-Gomez and she got exactly that. After dealing with some early grappling adversity, the Brazilian powerhouse destroyed her opponent, leaving her bloody and battered, and almost securing the finish at the end of the first round.

As the second round got underway, the damage was visible on “The Karate Hottie’s” face and more punishment soon brought an end to the fight. Rodriguez correctly walked away with an extra $50,000 for her dominant display of striking.

Performance of the Night

The final bonus went to Charles Jourdain for his brilliant submission win over the flashy Ricardo Ramos. The two exchanged kicks on the feet before the South American made it a grappling affair, and that is where Jourdain excelled.

Threatening his opponent with multiple sub attempts, the Canadian finally managed to snatch a tight guillotine choke midway through the opening round, forcing Rodriguez to tap. This extends his win streak to two as he hopes to make his stamp on the featherweight division.
