Cain Velasquez will corner Usman Nurmagomedov at Bellator 300 ahead of attempted murder trial

Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was granted permission by the courts to attend Bellator 300 in San Diego, CA in order to help corner Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov for his fight against Brent Primus on Saturday.

“He is scheduled to corner,” California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster told MMA Fighting. “We are in possession of a court order permitting him to do so.”

Velasquez is set to go on trial for premeditated, attempted murder in January. His charges stem from an incident that occurred in February 2022 when Velasquez chased and shot at a truck carrying Harry Goularte.

Goularte is accused of molesting Velasquez’s 4-year-old son at a daycare owned by Goularte’s mother. He will stand trial as well but at a later date.

When Velasquez opened fire he struck Goularte’s step-father who was driving his step-son to get fitted for his ankle tracking device. Velasquez was arrested and spent eight months in jail until granted bail in November 2022. One of the conditions of his bail is that he will get permission from the courts before traveling.

He was granted permission to appear on a professional wrestling card in Arizona just recently as well.

This is the first time Velasquez will corner an athlete since his arrest.
