UFC champ Alexa Grasso reveals she fractured hand in rematch vs. Valentina Shevchenko, has surgery
UFC women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso left her rematch with Valentina Shevchenko under similar conditions as her rival.
Grasso revealed on Tuesday that she fractured her right hand during her title defense at Noche UFC on Sept. 16 and had to undergo surgery. This was the same fortune as Shevchenko as she also fractured her right hand in the fight.
Grasso (17-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC), who kept her title after fighting Shevchenko (23-5-1 MMA, 12-4-1 UFC) to a split draw, didn’t announce a timeline for her return but did seem optimistic about her recovery for the expected trilogy.
“What are the odds, huh?” Grasso wrote on Instagram in Spanish. “During the fight I fractured my hand; we’re used to not letting pain stop us for anything, and even though it was hurting, I didn’t think it was anything serious until I tried to return to training and I realized that my hand was still really bad.
“The surgery was a success, and thank you so much for Doctor Arroyo and Doctor Zarate, you guys are angels. I trust them completely with my health in their hands @sportmedmx and I know I’m going to be super ready for that trilogy.”
