Alexa Grasso Undergoes Successful Surgery After Fracturing Hand At Noche UFC

UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Alexa Grasso suffered a serious hand injury in her rematch with Valentina Shevchenko.

Grasso and Shevchenko put on a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate at Noche UFC last month in Las Vegas. After five hard-fought rounds, the fight was ruled a split draw after some questionable fifth-round scoring by one of the judges.

Grasso retained her title as a result, although a third matchup with Shevchenko may be on the horizon.

As she awaits her next UFC flyweight title defense, Grasso is taking time off to rest and recover. She also used time to treat a hand fracture she suffered in the middle of the five-round battle.

In a recent Instagram post, Grasso shared a health update after the split draw against Shevchenko.

“What are the odds huh? In the fight I fractured my hand; we are used to not letting the pain stop us in anything and although it hurt I didn’t think it was serious until I wanted to go back to training and I realized my hand was still very bad,” Grasso posted Tuesday. “The surgery was a success thank you very much Doctor Arroyo and Doctor Zarate, you are angels!

“I fully trust my health in your hands and I know I will be MEGA ready for that trilogy.”

UFC President Dana White has expressed some interest in booking a trilogy between Grasso and Shevchenko next.

Grasso earned the flyweight title by submitting Shevchenko in a come-from-behind fashion at UFC 285 earlier this year. Before that, she won four consecutive flyweight belts, including victories against the likes of Maycee Barber and Viviane Araújo.

An exact prognosis on Grasso’s recovery isn’t certain as of this writing, although she’s expected to miss a few months. If that’s the case, a trilogy with Shevchenko could happen around mid-2024.
