Bobby Green says UFC kept Paddy Pimblett away from him “Too Risky”

UFC veteran Bobby Green believes the UFC is keeping Paddy Pimblett from fighting him.

Green was recently interviewed during media day for this weekend’s UFC Vegas 80 event, when he was asked for his opinion on the upcoming bout between Pimblett and Tony Ferguson at UFC 296. Green responded that the matchup is nothing more than the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion’s attempt to write their “story” with Pimblett, and in the process, they’re keeping the Englishman away from him.

“I used to want to fight Paddy, my thing is this. I got the name just like this Dawson kid. I got the name. You guys are fighting me for my name. And you want to get your recognition and that’s cool. But when it comes to back to the Paddy and the Tony stuff, I tell everybody, it’s like story writing for the UFC.

“They know how to write stories, and so they’re writing this story and everybody’s story goes differently. Some people are like, ‘Well, why didn’t you make it? Or why didn’t you do this and that.’ The story is not written exactly like that. Everybody got their own position to play. And so most of the time, you don’t see someone who’s going to come on a six loss streak, fight someone who’s on a six win streak.

“But, the story writing is going there and they want to build that kid so they would keep him [Paddy] away from me, so they could build them. It’s too risky. So the story writing, they’re just writing the story and my story is a little bit different.

“I fought everybody who came in front of me. I didn’t pick and choose. I never got to say no, that if anything, I got injured. But besides that, I fought everybody they put in front of me. My story is a true chaotic mess…. I just fought everybody they put in front of me.”

Green is preparing to take on Grant Dawson in the main event of this Saturday’s show from Vegas. In fact, Green picked up a big submission win over “El Cucuy” in his last outing this past July at UFC 291. As for Pimblett, he’s undefeated in his run in the UFC. His current win streak sits at six-straight since suffering the third and only loss of his career in Cage Warriors.

In all four of his UFC bouts, Pimblett has recorded victories, his latest being a decision win over Jared Gordon in December. Now, Pimblett faces Ferguson, a former interim 155-pound champion and one of the most recognized names in the sport. A win over Ferguson would be a massive push for the 28-year-old’s stock moving forward.
