Colby Covington has become known for his foul mouth over the years and the proud American never shies away from saying exactly what is on his mind. For better or worse, this stance has risen him to fame in the sport, and many tune in to watch him fight, whether that’s to see him win or lose.
‘Chaos’ is just months away from the biggest fight of his career when he steps into the octagon to face welterweight king Leon Edwards for UFC gold. Earlier this week, Matt Brown gave his opinion on the upcoming championship clash and insisted the challenger isn’t “built like me” and will likely retire if he’s unsuccessful in his title charge later this year.

The comments understandably didn’t sit well with Covington, prompting him to respond. While speaking with Submission Radio, the former UFC interim champion fired back at ‘The Immortal’.
“Speaking of discipline and decisions, speaking of a guy that’s trying to rub my name through the mud, let’s talk about Matt Brown. I don’t know if you guys heard the things he was saying about me. Did you guys hear that?” Said Covington. “Matt Brown or whatever his name is, you know, he’d be in a nicer house and have more money in his bank if he didn’t spend it all on drugs. Matt, don’t have me, hate the fact that you live in trailer trash and it’s the man in the mirror. I made good decisions in my life. I’m at this point in my career because I had discipline [and] self-control. Something you know nothing about because you’re a drug addict. So, don’t be mad that I have all this money, I’ve done all these great things. You live in a trailer, yeah. You married trailer trash, yeah. I’m married to the game, motherf***er.”
Colby Covington has long been considered one of the best 170-pound fighters on the planet and has already eyed potential matchups should he walk away with the belt wrapped around his waist in his next outing. Win or lose, retirement isn’t on the Miami native’s mind and he believes Matt Brown is “dumb” for stating that.
“My comment is, he must have got hit in the head too hard from my friend Miguel Baeza. He knocked him senseless. I knew that Matt was dumb, but I didn’t know he was that dumb. But, it just so happens my buddy Miguel Baeza knocked him in another dimension. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s saying this and that. Dude, he needs to go get some more money from his next fight so he can spend it on drugs again.”
As things stand, Covington is set to make his third attempt at capturing undisputed UFC gold when he locks horns with Leon Edwards in the T-Mobile Arena on December 16.
