Sean O’Malley says UFC has zero interest in him boxing Devin Haney: ‘No one knows him’

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley doesn’t see Devin Haney as a lucrative boxing match.

O’Malley traded barbs with undisputed lightweight boxing champion Haney, most recently seemingly agreeing to fight him. Haney is currently scheduled to challenge Regis Prograis for his WBC super lightweight title Dec. 9.

O’Malley has expressed interest in boxing Gervonta Davis, who knocked out Ryan Garcia in April. But after going back-and-forth with Haney on social media, O’Malley said the UFC isn’t on board with the idea.

“The thing about Devin Haney is like, I’m not trying to throw shade or anything, but I’ve legit literally never watched him box one fight ever,” O’Malley said on his “TimboSugarShow” podcast. “I didn’t even really know who he was until more recent.

“Like him, Gervonta, there’s a guy named like Shakur (Stevenson). I talked to the UFC about a potential boxing fight some day, and they were like, ‘No one knows Devin Haney. There’s a 0 percent chance that ever happens. He’s just not a star. No one knows him.’”

Francis Ngannou’s valiant effort in a close loss to undefeated WBC champion Tyson Fury this past Saturday in Saudi Arabia has changed the perspective of MMA fighters’ chances vs. boxers in the ring. But Shakur Stevenson recently told TMZ that MMA fighters need to stay in their lane and that he would easily beat O’Malley.

“What’s that dude’s name? Sean? … Tell him we can get it in,” Stevenson said. “I’m ready to lock in with him. It’s levels to this sh*t. If he wants to come try his hand, I’ll beat the sh*t out of him.”
