Alex Pereira defeats Jiri Prochazka by KO in UFC 295 main event

Former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka and former middleweight titleholder Alex Pereira clashed in the UFC 295 main event with the vacant 205-pound title on the line.  

Prochazka captured the title at UFC 275 in June 2022 by submitting Glover Teixeira late in the final round.  He later relinquished the belt after suffering a debilitating shoulder injury in order to not hold up the division.  He’s fully recovered now and wants the title back.  

Pereira moved up to the light heavyweight division after losing the middleweight championship to the man he won it from, Israel Adesanya.  With a win under his belt in the weight class, Pereira looked to add a second UFC belt to his collection.  

Prochazka inched forward and landed an uppercut.  Pereira responded with leg kicks.  Pereira landed two more leg. kicks.  Prochazka’s leg already seemed compromised.  Prochazka looked to get the fight to the ground, but Pereira applied a guillotine choke.  Prochazka escaped the submission attempt and secured a takedown.  Pereira defense prevented him from taking damage, but not for long.  Prochazka elevated and connected with a series of elbows.  Pereira worked his way back to his feet in the closing seconds of the round.  

Pereira took the center of the cage and Prochazka landed a leg kick.  Prochazka mixed up his strikes in the second frame.  Pereira connected with a kick to the body and continued to land leg kicks.   Prochazka landed a right hand that backed Pereira up.  Pereira looked hurt.  Prochazka separated and Pereira landed a leg kick.  Prochazka closed the distance but they quickly separated.  Prochazka landed a right hand.  He closed the distance and got caught with a right hand.  Pereira dropped Prochazka with a left hook.  He continued to land elbows until the referee stopped in.

Alex Pereira is a two-division UFC Champion.  The official stoppage was 4:09 of the second round.
