Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier open to 4th fight at UFC 300

Conor McGregor has been in multiple fight talks since his return was announced earlier this year. Having not competed inside the octagon since his horrific leg break over two years ago, his potential return is beginning to heat up.

All signs pointed toward Michael Chandler to be his return opponent but with each passing day, that bout looks more and more unlikely. The pair shared the screen during the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter and were confirmed to be fighting one another once the show comes to an end, but that hasn’t materialized.

With doubts surrounding McGregor’s next opponent, Dustin Poirier has thrown his name into the hat and both men seem open to the possibility of colliding for the fourth time at the forthcoming UFC 300 event.

After ‘The Notorious’ labeled the fight “a must,” Poirier has had his say on whether he’d be interested. While discussing his comeback next year, ‘The Diamond’ told Megan Olivi that he would likely accept another fight against the Irish superstar.

“I’ve been thinking about 300. I think that’s a big event, you know?” Poirier said when giving a timeline for his return. “Like I said in another interview, I missed 200, I’m not going to be around for 400, so that would be like, pretty cool for me.”

“Just have to see opponents and the landscape at that time what’s going to happen, I don’t know. But I think I’m going to fight at the beginning of next year, the opponent is what we’re looking for.”

“If [Charles] Oliveira’s getting the fight against with [Islam] Makhachev. [Justin] Gaethje’s going to be next, he’s going to sit out and wait for that because he’s guaranteed himself a shot, so how long is that going to take, you know? So I’ve got to fight somebody, it just depends on who the biggest fight I can make is.”

“We’ll see [if I’ll take another McGregor fight]. I probably would try to shut him up once and for all but even if I slap his a** around again he’s still going to be chatting, so, we’ll see… It’s a huge fight, [I’m] 2-1 against him, I don’t really see another reason for it but it’d be a huge fight.

With UFC 300 set to take place around April, this sets up Dustin Poirier perfectly to feature on the card. Whether or not he will be competing against Conor McGregor when that date comes remains to be seen.
