Promoter: Fury Wants Ngannou Rematch

It feels like there’s unfinished business between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion, Ngannou, flipped the combat sports world upside down last month (Oct. 28, 2023), battling valiantly against one of the greatest boxers of all time, Fury. Despite Ngannou coming up short on the judges’ scorecards by split decision (watch highlights), the world declared him the consensus true winner based on his competitiveness and ability to knock Fury down in round three.

Another boxing match appears to be in the immediate future for “The Predator.” Meanwhile, Fury, 35, will go on to face his fellow top-ranked Heavyweight, Oleksandr Usyk, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Feb. 17, 2023. Although it’s highly unlikely to be next, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, believes part two of Fury vs. Ngannou will happen.

“I think there’s a good chance of that happening. I do,” Warren said on The MMA Hour.

“I don’t know [if it’ll be next for Fury],” he continued. “It’s like jumping too far forward. Let’s get the big one [with Oleksandr Usyk] out of the way first, and then we’ll see where we go. But I do think [it’ll happen]. Tyson told me that he wants the rematch, and I know Ngannou wants it, because after the fight we were out there, we met at His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh]’s house and we had quite a lengthy conversation. He’s a nice guy, by the way. He’s a really nice guy, good team around him, and I’m quite sure we’ll do it again.”

The Usyk match will keep Fury active after essentially taking all of 2023 off. Before the Ngannou match, Fury scored a 10th round technical knockout (watch highlights) against Derek Chisora in December 2022. Ngannou, on the other hand, hadn’t competed since his most recent mixed martial arts (MMA) fight when he defeated Ciryl Gane via unanimous decision (watch highlights) in January 2022.
