MVP On UFC Negotiations: ‘We Flirting’

It’s been several months since MVP became a free agent and he still hasn’t signed with anyone. He shares an update on his thought process in a new podcast interview.

Hot free agent Michael “Venom” Page continues to sit right on the edge of signing with the UFC, but it hasn’t happened yet. He’s shown up cageside multiple times over the past several months, but a contract with the promotion remains elusive.

In a new interview with The MMA Fan Show podcast , he explains how contractual negotiations are going with the UFC and another suitor, PFL.

“I wish I could say for certain that we have [signed with UFC], but we haven’t,” Page said. “Honestly speaking, we’re not there yet. There’s still a few hurdles that we need to jump over. But like I said, we flirting.”

Asked if the UFC was his dream, Page shrugged.

“It’s difficult to say,” he said. “I think there’s dream fights, and a lot of those dream fights land in the UFC. How I feel now versus how I felt when I first joined MMA … when I first joined MMA, the whole goal was UFC because there was no other big show that could really do anything. Over time, things have changed. There’s a lot more than just the name of the brand. There’s a lot more to it.”

“But hopefully we can still get there and see those dream fights happen, yeah.”

That being said, “Venom” sounds like he’s seriously considering a move to PFL.

“PFL by itself is an interesting location to go to, especially with their development, I can see their progression,” he said. “I wouldn’t sign with Bellator, I wouldn’t, it would feel like a back step. It’s like, I’ve done that now and I kind of want to progress forward. If that moving forward is with PFL, that’s fine, it’s cool, I’d get to meet up with some people I didn’t get to fight as well. So that could be interesting. Or if I progress and move forward with the UFC.”

Page doesn’t seem interested in signing a deal that doesn’t make sense just to get UFC on his resume.

“The interest is just in being looked after as a fighter more than anything,” he said. “And the crazy thing about the PFL: every person I’ve spoken to that’s in PFL that I’m friends with, not one person has said anything bad. They would be honest and open, it’s just being treated well and being looked after as a fighter, because of how difficult what we do is.”
