Rogan is cautiously optimistic about Tony Ferguson’s chances after ‘El Cucuy’ completed a ‘Hell Week’ with endurance athlete David Goggins.

Joe Rogan believes we could see an improved Tony Ferguson after “El Cucuy” survived a ‘Hell Week’ of training with fitness influencer David Goggins.

Goggins is a former Navy SEAL turned endurance athlete, and he pushed Ferguson past the brink in a series of social media videos that had the MMA world divided. Many fighters suggested working Ferguson like that could burn him out for his fight against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 on December 16th.

As for Rogan, who’s had Goggins on his podcast multiple times?

“I’m very interested to see Tony after he’s been training with David Goggins,” he said in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. “There’s a lot of, like, very mixed reviews about whether or not that would be a good thing or a bad thing for him. It’s interesting.”

While cardio has never been an issue for Ferguson, Joe suggested there was clearly improvements that were possible.

“David isn’t struggling at all,” Rogan said. “Tony is struggling. So there is definitely some ground to gain when it comes to endurance. David’s not even f—ing tired, they’re going side by side with each other, and he’s like, ‘Who’s gonna carry the boats?’ He’s not even f—ing tired, because he can go for days. He can just go for days. There’s without a doubt some benefit in that.”

Ferguson has admitted to not being mentally dialed in for fights over the past few years. He’s clearly searching for something (or someone) that can help him tap back into the mindset that led him to the incredible 12 fight win streak he built from 2013 to 2020. Goggins’ message may be perfect for that.

“He’s saying take control, take control,” Rogan said. “Use your f—ing mind, take control of your life, and be better at everything, and I used to be a fat f— and look at me. That’s a great message.”

As for how “T-Ferg” did?

“David said that Tony is the first guy to get through hell week with him, which is incredible.”
